Profession of Simple Vows
Brother Dismas Warner
February 2, 2008
On the evening of February 2, 2008 , during 2 nd Vespers of the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, Dom Stanislaus received Brother Dismas Warner's profession of Simple Vows. After Brother Gregory, our last surviving founder, read a passage from the Rule of St. Benedict, the abbot spoke to Brother Dismas about moving into this new stage of monastic life and its meaning for him and for his brothers in community.
“In the core of our being we are open to God, made for a relationship with God. We are fulfilled...in the totality of self-giving which is love. We are ultimately fulfilled as human beings only in the unconditional consent to an unconditional love. That is the way our forebears thought and that is what you are about today.”
And so, after having affirmed his desire to commit himself more deeply to his monastic calling in obedience, stability, and conversion, Brother Dismas was stripped of the white scapular and cloth belt of the novice and clothed in the black scapular and leather belt of the professed monk.
Please join our prayer of gratitude for Brother Dismas' gift of himself to God, and rejoice with us as we continue to walk with our brother on his journey to the Father.
